1 Peter 2:21 - For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. (NLT)
Devotional Series: Calling
The call to do good is the biblical calling that most of us are currently pursuing. Many of us connect our purpose to a calling from God to fix the world we live in, to create something that adds value to people, to serve in some way, or to do whatever we find ourselves doing well. On the flip side, some of us, are struggling to find our purpose or calling.
The older I get the more I have come to see that the call from God to do good is simply a case of doing the best you can with what He puts in your hand in whatever situation you find yourself in. It is about being the hands and feet of God as often as you can, reflecting His goodness and excellence in both the darkest places and the mundane, normal daily parts of life. For some of us, this may result in life-threatening levels of suffering. For others, it will simply be a case of sticking to our word even when it is slightly inconvenient (something the Lord reminded me of this week!).
Whatever the call to do good means to you, remember it is one of the reasons why we were separated and saved. We are saved and called to show others God’s goodness!
1 Peter 2:9 - But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. (NLT)
Questions for reflection: What does the call to do good mean in my daily life? Have I asked the Holy Spirit to reflect His goodness to others? Have I asked for forgiveness for the times that I have fallen short of God’s goodness towards others?
