Nehemiah 3:1-2 - Then Eliashib the high priest and the other priests started to rebuild... People from the town of Jericho worked next to them….(NLT)
Nehemiah 3:7-8 - Next to them were Melatiah from Gibeon, Jadon from Meronoth, people from Gibeon, and people from Mizpah, the headquarters of the governor of the province west of the Euphrates River. Next was Uzziel son of Harhaiah, a goldsmith by trade, who also worked on the wall. Beyond him was Hananiah, a manufacturer of perfumes. (NLT)
Nehemiah 3:28-30 - Above the Horse Gate, the priests repaired the wall. Each one repaired the section immediately across from his own house. Next Zadok son of Immer also rebuilt the wall across from his own house, and beyond him was Shemaiah son of Shecaniah, the gatekeeper of the East Gate. Next Hananiah son of Shelemiah and Hanun, the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section, while Meshullam son of Berekiah rebuilt the wall across from where he lived. (NLT)
If you have time, it is worth reading the whole of Nehemiah 3. Ever since I first read it, it has been one of my favourite chapters in the Bible. It is a fantastic example of what can be achieved if every one of us chips in and does our part. It reveals that the size of our contribution is not what matters most but rather that we contribute. Throughout the chapter, we see after one person starts building their neighbour or someone similar or related to them joins the building project. It reminds us to get involved and that our contribution no matter how small or seemingly insignificant may trigger someone else to join in and unintentionally start a chain reaction.
Questions for reflection: Is there something or somewhere that the Lord has asked me to contribute to that I have ignored? Am I despising the size of my contribution? Have I considered that my role might be part of a bigger chain?
