Don’t Miss What He Already Finished

Matthew 27: 45-46; 50-54 - At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead. They left the cemetery after Jesus’ resurrection, went into the holy city of Jerusalem, and appeared to many people. The Roman officer and the other soldiers at the crucifixion were terrified by the earthquake and all that had happened. They said, “This man truly was the Son of God!”  (NLT)

John 19:30 - When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (NLT)

Holy Week. This week is what our whole Faith is all about. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I find myself so distracted by what I can do for God ie: my calling and my purpose, that I forget what he has already done for me. Holy Week gives us an opportunity to pause and reflect on the greatest miracle that has ever taken place – that God came into the world as a man, Jesus Christ, and died for our sins so that we could have a relationship with him. That is the gospel pure and simple. Nothing added or taken away. Everything was and is finished at the cross.

This week, as you take time out to celebrate Easter with friends, family, at church, with Easter eggs, hot cross buns, lamb, fish or however it is celebrated in your part of the world, why not take some time to personally reflect on the miracle of your own salvation?
